Why Aluminum Wiring Is a Problem Worth Solving
During the late 1960s and 1970s, aluminum was widely used as a substitute for copper in residential wiring across Ontario. It was cheaper, and at the time it seemed like a reasonable alternative.
The problem showed up over time. Aluminum expands and contracts more than copper when it heats and cools, which loosens connections. Loose connections generate heat. And heat at electrical connections is how fires start. Today, aluminum wiring is flagged by home inspectors, flagged by insurance companies, and in some cases can make a home uninsurable without remediation.

Pigtailing vs Full Aluminum Wiring Replacement
Home Assessment
We inspect your electrical system to confirm the presence and extent of aluminum wiring, check connection points, and assess the overall condition of your system.
Pigtailing Option
Pigtailing adds a short piece of copper wire to each aluminum connection point using an approved connector (AlumiConn or Copalum). This creates a safe copper-to-device connection at every outlet, switch, and fixture. Cost: $2,000-$4,500 for a typical 3-bedroom home.
Full Replacement Option
Full replacement removes all aluminum wiring and replaces it with new copper wiring. This eliminates aluminum entirely but is more invasive and costly. Cost: $8,000-$15,000+.
Documentation
After completion, we provide a Certificate of Inspection from the ESA and a letter of compliance for your insurance company.
